What it does: gives bath bombs their fizz (paired with citric acid), gently softens and buffers, and adds a mild polish.

What to make with it: bath bombs, bath salts, natural deodorants and gentle scrubs.

Good to know:

• Pairs with citric acid for the classic bath-bomb fizz — roughly 2 parts bicarb to 1 part citric acid
• Keep it dry until you're ready to use it; moisture sets off the reaction
• Fine white powder
