Evening Primrose Oil

Evening Primrose is a real treasure for troubled skin. A golden, greenish-yellow oil pressed from the seeds of the Oenothera biennis plant — whose pretty yellow flowers famously only open in the evening — it's rich in GLA, a fatty acid your skin loves.

Wonderful for: dry, itchy, irritated and acne-prone skin. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action helps calm breakouts (by helping to balance sebum) and soothe conditions like rosacea and dermatitis. It supports the skin's barrier, helps reduce moisture loss, and is lovely for the scalp and hair too.

What to make with it: gorgeous in anti-ageing products, nourishing salves, balms, masks, creams and butters, and in lip and hair care. You can use it at up to 100%.

Good to know:

• Rich in GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) and unsaturated fatty acids
• Heat-sensitive with a slow absorption rate — keep it away from light, heat and oxygen to stop it turning
• Best paired with a more stable oil, or a little vitamin E, to extend its shelf life
