Classic Bath Bombs
Share
Bath bombs are pure joy to make, and they use two of my simplest ingredients — bicarbonate of soda and citric acid. Here's the classic recipe to get you fizzing.
You'll need (makes about 4–6 bombs)
- Bicarbonate of Soda — 200g (2 parts)
- Citric Acid — 100g (1 part)
- A carrier oil or melted butter — 2–3 tsp (about 15g); sweet almond oil or melted shea are lovely
- Witch hazel in a small spritz bottle
- Optional: essential oil for scent (10–15 drops), a natural colour, a few dried flowers
Method
- Whisk the bicarbonate of soda and citric acid together really well, breaking up any lumps.
- Stir in the oil (and your essential oil and colour, if using).
- Spritz with witch hazel a little at a time, mixing quickly, until the mix just holds together when you squeeze it — like damp sand. Go slowly; too much and it'll start to fizz.
- Pack firmly into your moulds, leave for a minute, then turn out gently.
- Leave to dry overnight before wrapping.
A few tips
Humidity is the enemy of a good bath bomb — make them on a dry day, and store them somewhere dry. If your mix fizzes as you make it, you've added the witch hazel too fast.
Both key ingredients are in my Additives. 🤍
