Whipped Body Butter

This one always feels like a bit of magic — solid butters whipped up into a soft, airy cloud that melts straight into the skin. There's no water and no beeswax, so it stays light and absorbs beautifully. Makes roughly 150g.

What you'll need

Make it a kit: two butters, a light oil and a splash of vitamin E — a perfect first 'make your own' kit for beginners.

Method

  1. Gently melt the shea and mango butters together until just liquid, then take off the heat.
  2. Stir in the oil and vitamin E.
  3. Pop the bowl in the fridge for 30–60 minutes, until the mix is semi-solid and starting to set at the edges — like soft ice cream.
  4. Whip with an electric hand-mixer for a few minutes until it's pale, light and fluffy.
  5. Add essential oil if using, give it a final whip, then spoon into jars.

Tips

Keep it below about 25°C — in a hot room a whipped butter can deflate or go grainy. If that happens, just melt it down and re-whip. Because there's no water, no preservative is needed, but keep water out of the jar (use clean, dry hands or a little spatula).
